"The Bald Soprano" and "The Wizard of Oz" - in Arad
The German State Theatre in Timişoara presents on Tuesday, February 23rd 2010, on the stage of "Ioan Slavici" Municipal Theatre in Arad, two shows:
"The Wizard of Oz", at 11 a.m.
"The Bald Soprano", at 7 p.m.

The Great Oz has the power to make any wish come true, only he can endow someone with courage, wisdom and kindness. Dorothy, together with her companions, who will become her friends over time, sets off on a journey to find the Wizard. On their way they will have to learn three core values: courage, wisdom and kindness. The following actors will play, sing and dance: Radu Vulpe, Dana Borteanu, Tatiana Sessler, Olga Török, Daniela Török, Rareş Hontzu, Peter Papakostidis, Horia Săvescu, together with the students from the department of Acting in German language Aljoscha Cobeţ, Anne-Marie Waldeck and Andrea Wolfer.

The text of "The Wizard of Oz", by L. Frank Baumm, was adapted for this performance by Éva Labadi Megyes in collaboration with Diana Manole, the translation in German being done by Lorette Brădiceanu-Persem. Lyrics were written by Dana Borteanu, and the music was composed by Cári Tibor. The choreography bears the mark of Liana Iancu, the set and costumes were created by Eugen Varga. The show is directed by Éva Labadi Megyes.

"The Bald Soprano", Ionesco's debut play, was staged for the first time in 1950 in Paris. The show marked the transition of modern theatre from the Aristotelian tradition to the theatre of the absurd. The play brings forward people's inability to communicate and the deficiencies of their own identity. The play is directed by Alexandru Dabija, this being his first collaboration with a theatre from Timişoara. The show was also performed last fall as part of the National Theatre Festival in Bucharest.

Performing actors are: Radu Vulpe, Ioana Iacob, Rareş Hontzu, Isolde Cobeţ, Olga Török and Boris Gaza. The set and costumes were created by George Petre. The performance is subtitled in Romanian.
