The German State Theatre Timișoara (GSTT) is taking part in the international theatrical project "Home World", organized in Bad Ischl-Salzkammergut, European Capital of Culture in 2024. Within the framework of this project, several stage readings will take place in the coming months, both in Austria and in Timișoara, European Capital of Culture in 2023.
The "Home World" project, whose motto is "In Search of Lost Times and New Hopes", began in January 2024, when young writers from Argentina, Austria, Senegal, Ukraine and Romania spent several months in a creative residency in the Salzkammergut region. Through their writing, they explored in an honest and unprejudiced way the concept of "home", between the nostalgia of the past and the realities of the present. Romanian-born writer and playwright Thomas Perle also participated in the project.
The resulting texts will be presented in short stage productions with actors from Vienna, Hamburg, Bochum, Salzburg and Timișoara. The first such performances will take place on September 28 and 29, 2024, at the Lehár Theater in Bad Ischl, with the participation of GSTT actresses Daniela Török and Oana Vidoni. At the end of the project, in November 2024, GSTT will host a performance-reading of Thomas Perle's The Waves of the Danube in its own auditorium.
Thomas Perle, laureate of the prestigious Austrian theater prize "Nestroy", benefited last year from a residency in Timișoara, offered by the German Cultural Forum in Eastern Europe, and was appointed City Chronicler for the European Capital of Culture year 2023. He is a close collaborator of the GSTT, having worked last year with Clemens Bechtel on the text of the performance "Sidy Thal", about the anti-Semitic bombing that took place in 1938 in the Timișoara Theater building.
